Police Lieutenant General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. assumed command of the Philippine National Police on August 3, 2022, following the press release of his appointment as the 28th Chief of the Philippine National Police by President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr.
Prior to his appointment as the number one in PNP’s hierarchy, he served as the Commander of the Area Police Command-Northern Luzon which covers the regions of Ilocos (Region 1), Cagayan Valley (Region 2), Central Luzon (Region 3) and the Cordillera Administrative Region.
With his outstanding scholastic records, he entered in the Philippine Military Academy and became a member of the PMA ‘Makatao’ Class of 1989. He was born on April 24, 1967 in the town of Paniqui in Tarlac, and was later raised in La Trinidad, Benguet. He is married to Mary Grace Lino and blessed with three children namely: Martin, Ninna, and Aaron.
A very well-rounded police officer who served PNP in various capacities, both in police operations and administrative work, he diligently served his star-rank positions in the organization inside and outside Camp Crame. Among his significant assignments were follows: Commander of the Southern Luzon Area Police Command, which is composed of regions of Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) – Region 4-A; Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) – Region 4-B and Bicol (Region 5); Director of the Directorate for Comptrollership (DC); and the Director of the Directorate for Information and Communication Technology Management (DICTM).
During his early stint as a one-star general, he became the director of the PNP Maritime Group, and later, as the regional director of Police Regional Office 1 in Ilocos.
As middle-grade police officer, he had also served as the Provincial Director of Benguet Province; he also became the Chief of the Task Force Limbas of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG); and the Deputy Operations Officer of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force (PAOCTF).
In his junior years as a commissioned officer, he had his baptism of fire when he was assigned to various field units and offices in different capacities such as in the 1st Special Action Company in Parang, Maguindanao; 231st Philippine Constabulary (PC) Company in Quezon Province; Police Aviation Security Command — the current Aviation Security Group (AVSEG); Criminal Investigation Service Command — now the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG); Office of Internal Security (OIS); Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG); Health Service; Police Community Relations Group — currently the Police Community Affairs and Development Group (PCADG); and in the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management (DPRM).
With so much to offer, the Top Cop assumed office with a vision of effective, efficient and productive police service, anchored in unity and cooperation between and among the police and the community, an appropriate time to lead the 260,000 plus gallant men and women towards the 121years of the Nation’s Peacekeeper.
