
“May you always be the bastion of peace, security and development for our Motherland…,” these were few of the words taken from the last facebook post of Police Lieutenant Reynaldo Samson, addressed to his Master’s degree students in Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa.
Police Lieutenant Samson is the Chief of Police of the Ampatuan Municipal Police Station who died in an ambush which transpired in its area of jurisdiction in Maguindanao on the day after the country celebrated its National Heroes’ Day.
On August 30, 2022, Police Lieutenant Samson, together with his four subordinates, went on patrol to implement a warrant of arrest to a certain Wanted Person. While on their way along the road of Barangay Kapinpilan in the Municipality of Ampatuan, they were ruthlessly ambushed by two unidentified armed criminals. The team managed to fight back and exchanged fire with the unknown enemies, but Police Lieutenant Reynaldo Samson, who happened to be in the front seat together with his driver Police Corporal Salipuden Endab, received multiple shots which resulted to their immediate deaths. On the other hand, Police Senior Master Sergeant Reynante Quinalayo, Police Corporal Rogelio Dela Cuesta Jr and Police Corporal Clint Marc Dayaday, who happened to be at the back, received minor wounds.
Police Lieutenant Reynaldo Samson, LPT, RCrim, MPA,DPM,Ph.D., finished his Bachelor of Science in Education and Doctorate in Philosophy at the Bicol University in Legazpi City in 2015. He also took Master in Public Administration at the National College of Administration and Governance in UP Diliman in 2020. He is also the current assistant faculty via online learning for graduate programs in the Philippine Christian University Manila and the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa. He also teaches at the National Police College in Silang, Cavite.
Samson is also professor of Human Resource Management and Transformational Leadership for Master of Arts in Education, Major in Educational Management at the Graduate School of Education, in the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa for the Academic Year 2022-2023.
In his facebook post, two days before the ambush, he congratulated his students, saying: “Congratulations my dear Graduates in the MASTER IN MANAGEMENT, in National Security Administration (MMNSA) Batch 2 under my tutelage.”
“May you always be the bastion of peace, security and development for our Motherland, forever grateful, thankful and hopeful for your career in Public Service and Governance. Kudos and PADAYON, mga Paham sa Pamahala ng Pambansang Pangangasiwang Pang-Seguridad.”
A strong pillar of the Philippine National Police, and a very good leader to his subordinates. PLt Samson is a man with dreams, a man full of hope and desire for public service. He touches the lives of many Filipinos, by being their teacher & mentor and as police commissioned officer in the police service.
The Philippine National Police strongly condemns the lawless criminals responsible for the crime and has sought for justice of the two fallen heroes of the Ampatuan Municipal Police Station.
On August 31, 2022, PNP Chief, Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr., together with Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr., visited the wounded police officers. They went to the Our Lady of Hope clinic to check on the condition of the two wounded police personnel: Police Corporal Rogelio Dela Cuesta Jr. and Police Corporal Marc Clint Dayaday. They were awarded the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting, Medalya ng Kadikalaan and were given financial assistance in recognition to their bravery and heroism. Their comrade, Police Senior Master Sergeant Reynante Quinalayo was also awarded with the Medalya ng Kadakilaan.
“They are worthy of our praises for the dedication they displayed in fighting criminality. Their sacrifices will not be put in vain as the PNP vows to pursue the perpetrators and make them legally liable for their actions,” Azurin said.
Gen. Azurin and SILG Abalos then proceeded to the funeral homes where the cadaver of the Station Chief PLt Reynaldo Samson was inferred. He and another casualty, Police Corporal Salipuden Endab, were also conferred with the Medalya ng Kadakilaan for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty.
Heroes never die; their bravery, courage, and sacrifice will always be remembered by this grateful nation from generation to generation. Indeed, their memories are engraved within our hearts and their legacy of heroism will be continued eternally.
