
The Turkish Military Attaché in the Philippines, Captain Yavuz MERCAN, joined by Military Administrative Attachè First Sergeant Üzeyir Özbidak, paid a courtesy visit to the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Camp BGen Rafael T Crame on November 3, 2022.
Police Brigadier General Flynn E Dongbo and Police Colonel Roderick D Minong from the logistics arm of the PNP warmly welcomed the guests at the PNP Star Officers’ Lounge of the National Headquarters.
The Philippines has a strong bilateral relation with Turkey. The defense forces of both countries affirm their joint commitment to further bolster defense cooperation where Turkey has displayed keen interest in supporting Philippine military modernization efforts.
As for the national police force, the PNP has yet to enact its Revitalization and Capability Enhancement Bill that seeks to attain the 100% basic “move-shoot-communicate-investigate” equipage fill up.
Recently, the PNP Bids and Awards Committee successfully procured over 8,000 units of 9mm Striker Fired Pistol “GIRSAN” under its capability enhancement programs for years 2021 and 2022. GIRSAN is produced and manufactured in Turkey. The pistols were supplied to PNP by the Joint Venture of Nashe Enterprise and Girsan Makina Vei Hafif Silah San Tic As.
“Our country is facing an increasingly complex array of challenges to internal security. The Turkish Military Attaché visit is a significant step for PNP in its bid to continuously boost its operational capability in addressing emerging forms of criminality, terrorism, and other threats to national security”, PGen Azurin added.
