“Service Amidst Challenges: The First 89,” the coffee table book, inspired General Rodolfo A. Azurin, Jr’s noble class in the Philippine Military Academy, the “Makatao” Class of 1989, to share precious moments with him in its launching on December 5, 2022 at the PNP Multi-Purpose Center in Camp Rafael T. Crame.
The book, ambiguously entitled, may have made the event be construed to mean Gen. Azurin as the first of the PMA Class 1989 since he reached the topmost in the PNP among his classmates; or as the first 89 days of his tenure as Chief of the Philippine National Police which was acknowledged as such in the message of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr in the coffee table book. Relative to this, an audio-visual presentation was shown to the audience aptly capsulizing the PNP’s operational and administrative accomplishments from August 3, 2022 to October 30, 2022, exactly the first 89 days of CPNP Azurin.
Both intents though left an impactful leadership quality of the subject and the chronology of accomplishments of PNP under his stint.
Highlighted therein was the reduction of the crime rate in the Philippines in the past three months; apprehension of Most Wanted Persons; confiscation of more than Php8 Billion worth of illegal drugs; intensive community outreach program, the assistance of 650,885 drug surrenderees who have undergone and have availed of the Recovery Wellness Program; etcetera.
The compilation of accomplishments was indeed an achievement worth of dedicating them to the efforts of all PNP members who accepted the challenges to bring about the needed changes in maintaining peace and order in the country.
“This coffee table book entitled “the first 89” is a homage to my class year in the Philippine Military Academy. It presents more than our different programs and projects as it also shares stories of heroism and good deeds from both our uniformed and non-uniformed personnel towards ensuring safety and security of our citizens,” General Azurin said.
A ceremonial untying of the ribbon to highlight the book followed, marking the official launching to underscore the shining moments of the 89 days.
Secretary of Interior and Local Government, Atty. Benjamin Abalos, Jr., ably represented by DILG Undersecretary for Peace and Order, Oscar Valenzuela, extended his compliments to the organization for producing the coffee table book.
Members of PNP, under the stewardship of General Azurin, Jr. swore to continue their intensive operations and duty, as well as the plans and programs of PNP following the peace and security framework, the Malasakit+Kaayusan+Kapayapaan=Kaunlaran along with the alliance of KASIMBAYANAN or Kapulisan, Simbahan, at Pamayanan.
