“People don’t get promoted for their jobs really well. They get promoted by demonstrating their potential to do more.”-Tara Jaye Frank
A new year promotion to start 2023 off with a bang surely makes one greatly motivated. Just after the yuletide merrymaking, an extension of the celebration was on its way for the police officers who were to be promoted for their sincerity, sacrifice, and success. A promotion to them means a higher rank that comes with a greater commitment and a renewed sense of service, a much-deserved promotion for their efforts of keeping our community safe and peaceful.
Over 43,000 cops in the Philippine National Police (PNP) were promoted across the country under the PNP’s CY 2022 Regular Promotion Program on January 10, 2022. Those promoted were 2nd level officers from the ranks of Police Corporals to Police Executive Master Sergeants for the Police Non-Commissioned Officers (PNCOs); and from the ranks of Police Lieutenants to Police Majors for Police Commissioned Officers (PCOs). Similar symbolic ceremonial donning of ranks was held simultaneously in all 17 Police Regional Offices.
The Chief PNP, PGen Rodolfo S Azurin Jr was the Administering Officer at the PNP National Headquarters in Camp BGen Rafael T Crame, Quezon City. In his speech during the donning of ranks, PGen Azurin urged the police officers who were promoted to support the PNP Internal Cleansing in the organization through the mass courtesy resignation of 3rd level officers, from the rank of full colonel to four-star generals. The Chief PNP also reminded the promotees to keep selves and their ranks to steer clear from involvement in the use, possession, manufacture and trade of any illegal drug.
Of the 43,823 promotees, 406 were promoted to the rank of Police Majors; 3,568 Police Captains; 273 Police Lieutenants; 1,707 Police Executive Master Sergeants; 3,507 Police Chief Master Sergeants; 3,033 Police Senior Master Sergeants; 5,046 Police Master Sergeants; 11,711 Staff Sergeants; and 14,562 for the rank of Police Corporals.
The regular promotion was a result of the merit system to give recognition to the PNP uniformed personnel and uplift the morale of the 227,000-strong police organization.
“Your promotion today defines success, and it is anchored with the huge opportunity and motivation to further impart your ideals, wisdom and vision. So, as you move up in the career ladder, it is important to remember that with greater authority comes greater accountability. As future leaders of PNP, it is your duty to serves as a role model to your fellow officers, a leader with integrity, professionalism and respect for laws,” PGen Azurin added.
Families, friends and loved ones of the promotees happily participated in the ceremonial pinning of ranks to commemorate their relatives’ and families’ milestones in life. The ceremony was a mixture of uncontained happiness as the families of the promotees hugged, cried, and said were proud of their achievements. A lot of ‘Congratulations’ greetings were heard and exchanged between and among fellow promotees, classmates, visitors and friends who attended.
The newly promoted police officers are much more invigorated to serve and protect the community and make PNP truly worthy and deserving of the people’s trust and respect.
