The first day of the month of May is dedicated to commemorating Labor Day worldwide. In the Philippines, the special day means more, since it celebrates the hard work and contributions of Filipino workers to the country’s economic growth and development, pronouncedly recognizing the sacrifices and struggles of every Filipino worker in building our Nation’s progress.
On the occasion of the National Labor Day or “Araw ng Manggagawa”, Police General Benjamin C Acorda Jr, the newly appointed Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), paid his first command visit to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) at Camp Karingal, to boost the morale of its personnel and assess the readiness of the police force in the district to ensure the safety and security of workers during Labor Day activities.
The Chief PNP was welcomed by QCPD Director, PBGen Nicolas Dela Torre III; with the NCRPO Regional Director, Police Major General Edgar Alan O. Okubo; Deputy Regional Director for Operations; Police Brigadier General Jack L Wanky; and other high-ranking officials of the district.
One of the highlights of the visit was the demonstration of the QCPD’s Integrated Command Control Center (ICCC), a state-of-the-art facility that integrates various technologies and systems to enhance the police forces’ capabilities in maintaining peace and order in the district.
During the demonstration, Chief PNP Acorda, Jr. witnessed the ICCC’s capabilities that feature a Three-Minute Response Time (3MRT) of police personnel at fixed points or nearby areas for any reported crime incident. The ICCC’s advanced technology, which can be replicated nationwide, enables police forces to swiftly respond to emergencies and coordinate with other agencies to ensure public safety.
In his remarks, the Chief PNP commended QCPD for its efforts in implementing the Integrated Command Control Center, and emphasized the importance of technology in modern law enforcement. “The Integrated Command Control Center is vital in maintaining peace and order in the district. The QCPD’s investment in this facility is a testament to its sincere commitment in providing efficient and effective police services to the people.
“As we continue to face new challenges in maintaining public safety, we must harness the power of technology to enhance our capabilities. Magtrabaho tayo ng maayos and always put in our hearts everything we do for the betterment of the country.”
Chief PNP Acorda expressed his gratitude to all the QCPD personnel for bestowing a warm welcome during his visit. “You deserve beyond any appreciation, recognition, and congratulation for making Quezon City a safe and secure City. As I said, we must show to the public that we are one in rendering service within the Police Service and other Government Agencies to achieve a more progressive community. “
The relevance of Labor Day in the Philippines lies in giving the appropriate recognition the contributions of Filipino workers, including the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs); the celebration of their achievements, posing as a reminder of the need to continue fighting for fair labor practices, job security, and better working conditions. The Philippine National Police’s readiness is crucial in ensuring the smooth and safe celebration of Labor Day, an important event for workers’ rights and a marked symbol of the country’s commitment to labor and social justice. The Chief PNP’s visit to the QCPD demonstrates a true commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the Filipino people. It also underscores the importance of technology and innovation in modern law enforcement and provides an opportunity to meet with local police officials, assess the situation on the ground, providing guidance on how to improve policing efforts in achieving a safer place to live, work, and do business.
