Maritime Group exudes Dominance during the 2024 NHQ-NSUs Sportsfest

The 2024 National Headquarters – National Support Units (NHQ-NSUs) Sportsfest had  concluded with resounding success, showcasing the Philippine National Police’s commitment to fostering strength, teamwork, and unity among its personnel. The event, held from October 16 to November 28, 2024, at Camp BGen Rafael T. Crame in Quezon City, brought together athletes from various National Support Units.


The Sportsfest kicked off on October 16 at the PNP Transformation Oval, with Police Lieutenant General Michael John F. Dubria, Deputy Chief PNP for Operations, representing and delivering the message of Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, Chief PNP.


“As we gather here to officially open the PNP National Headquarters-National Support Units Sportsfest, we embrace an opportunity to strengthen our bonds and celebrate the values that unite us. This event is more than just a display of physical prowess and athletics; it is a reflection of our commitment to excellence and our spirit of service. Sports has a unique way of bringing people together—it fosters camaraderie, teamwork, and discipline—values that define our identity as police officers,” stated by PGen. Marbil in his message, as read by PLtGen. Dubria.


Police Major General Edgar Alan O. Okubo, Acting Chief of the Directorial Staff, had graced the said event, marking a triumphant end to the competition.


Dominating the leaderboard, the Maritime Group (MG) had emerged as the Overall Champion, excelling in various events, followed by the Special Action Force (SAF) as 1st Runner-Up, and the Aviation Security Group (AVSEG) as 2nd Runner-Up.


The highlight of the event was the awarding of winners in the following categories: For the Arnis, AVSEG had bagged the championship, MG had placed second, and SAF got the third; for Badminton, MG had clinched the title, followed by Health Service (HS) and Civil Security Group (CSG); for Basketball (Women), CSG had topped, with MG and SAF coming in 1st and 2nd runners-up, respectively; for Basketball (Men), SAF had claimed the championship, with Headquarters Support Service (HSS) as the 1st Runner-Up and Forensic Group (FG) as the 2nd Runner-Up; for Boxing,  FG had dominated, while MG and HSS had secured the 1st and 2nd runner-up slots; for Chess, AVSEG had emerged as the champion, followed by Information and Technology Management Service (ITMS) and SAF as 1st and 2nd respectively; for the Dance Sport, MG again had topped, with Intelligence Group (IG) and Highway Patrol Group (HPG) placing second and third, respectively; for Judo, SAF secured the championship, with MG as the 1st Runner-Up and FG as the 2nd Runner-Up; for Karatedo, AVSEG took the top spot, followed by HPG and FG in that order; for Lawn Tennis, CSG had emerged the champ, with EOD/K9 and PSPG as runners-up; for Mini-Marathon, SAF has excelled with champions across multiple PCO and PNCO divisions;  for Shooting, AVSEG won in the Production Category, while the Command Group-DPS had triumphed in Standard; for Swimming, MG topped the Men’s events, while SAF shown in the Women’s Category; for Table Tennis, FG had clinched the championship, with MG and PSPG as the 1st and 2nd runners-up; for the Taekwondo, MG had emerged as the champion, followed by SAF and AVSEG; for the Track Events, SAF had secured victories in both men’s and women’s divisions; for the Tug of War, MG again had secured the top spot in both Men’s and Women’s categories; and for Volleyball, MG again had claimed both Men’s and Women’s top titles.

Okubo said.


The 2024 NHQ-NSUs Sportsfest was a vibrant celebration of sportsmanship and camaraderie, definitely highlighting the discipline, resilience, and teamwork of PNP personnel. It had strengthened bonds across the organization through friendly competitions and mutual respect among its members.
