In a place covered with darkness, increasing the vulnerability of residents to crimes and imminent dangers, the Philippine National Police (PNP) shines its brightest in providing safety and security. Prioritizing solutions for a given situation is at the highest level for the 2nd PMFC Oriental Mindoro PPO.
PLtCol Anthony J. Ramos, Force Commander, spearheaded a transformative project aptly named “Let There Be Light”, launched in the heart of Oriental Mindoro at Sitio Bugso, Barangay Sta. Teresita in Mansalay on July 12, 2024. This project was successfully conducted in collaboration with Oriental Mindoro PPO, 10th Special Action Battalion PNP SAF, Mansalay Municipal Police Station, Local Government Unit, Indigenous Peoples Affairs, and Halcon Masonic Lodge No. 249, with the guidance and support of the Regional Director, PBGen Roger L. Quesada.
Project “Let There Be Light,” through the 10 solar light panels given by PNP, brings illumination and a ray of hope to the residents of the barangay, sending signs of progress to the area. Services, such as the distribution of food packages for more or less 100 families; free haircut, an information awareness drive regarding relevant laws, plus the installation of solar lights, present a neat package of the program.
PLtCol Ramos highlighted the advocacy of this project as one of their best practices aimed to address several critical needs of the indigenous people of the province, enhancing the safety and security of communities and to improving the quality of their lives. PNP aspires to transform the socio-economic welfare of the community in the long run. The introduction of reliable and sustainable lighting facilities marks a significant step towards inclusivity and empowerment for Mangyan tribes who have long been marginalized.
The Project “Let There Be Light” is more than just an infrastructure upgrade; it represents hope and progress for Oriental Mindoro’s indigenous people. By shining a light for these communities, PNP illuminates paths to safety, education, and long-term development. As the project progresses, PNP intends to gradually change the lives of many, demonstrating that with persistent efforts and compassionate administration, even the most remote and underserved places can shine brightly with a safer environment through the efforts of PNP towards a Bagong Pilipinas!
