Benguet Troopers’ Immediate Response saves a Student

Community Solidarity at Work

In a remarkable display of community spirit and dedication, the police officers of the Benguet First Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) successfully rescued a 15-year-old Grade 9 student who fell into a ravine along Sitio Cadian Road in Barangay Topdac, Atok, Benguet. It was Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2025.

The student, identified as Junior, a resident of Caliking, Atok, was reported to have accidentally slipped and fallen approximately fifty meters down the ravine. Responding swiftly to the emergency, the Benguet Troopers alongside local volunteers, the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team of Barangay Caliking, and personnel from the Atok Rural Health Unit, launched a coordinated rescue operation. Utilizing the “bayanihan” approach locally coined as “binnadang”, the rescuers worked together to carry Junior back up to the road, demonstrating the power of community collaboration and resoluteness in times of crisis.

Right after the successful ascend, the young student victim received an immediate first aid before being transported to the Benguet General Hospital for further medical evaluation. As of this writing, the said student is in stable condition.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Renny D. Lizardo, Force Commander of the Benguet 1st PMFC, praised the quick response of the police personnel and the community members involved in the rescue. “This incident showcases the dedication and commitment of our officers to their sworn duty. Their actions not only saved a life but also exemplified selfless heroism and unwavering dedication to serve and protect. It reflects the perseverance and collaboration between the PNP and the community, highlighting their devotion to serving others, which is a testament to a progressive community,” he stated.

The successful rescue operation serves as a reminder of the importance of community solidarity and the vital role that local law enforcement officers play in ensuring the safety and well-being of the general public.

As the community rejoices over Junior’s safe return, it also reinforces the bonds of cooperation and mutual support that define the spirit of Benguet, highlighting the true essence of love and care within the community.
