Bringing Smiles and Hope: Christmas for Kids at Cebu I.T. Park

The Cebu I.T. Park was transformed into a haven of laughter and joy on November 24, 2024, as it hosted “Christmas for Kids”, a heartwarming event held as part of its Car-Free Sundays initiative. Dedicated to children from the Children’s Haven of Carbon Police Station 5, the event had celebrated the resilience of young souls who have faced abuse and loss. This gathering, attended by children aged 4 to 14, had provided a safe and vibrant space for them to laugh, play, and create positive memories.

The activity, held from 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM at the I.T. Park Grounds, was a collaborative effort that highlighted the unwavering support of the Philippine National Police (PNP), particularly the Carbon Police Station 5, and the Regional Police Community Affairs and Development Unit 7 (RPCADU 7) personnel.

The event had kicked off with a 1-kilometer fun run, setting the tone for an energetic and lively morning.

The Christmas for Kids event was not just a celebration but also a testament to the PNP’s commitment to community care. The Carbon Police Station 5 took center stage, being the founders of the Children’s Haven, an initiative which was established on September 14, 2019, by then Station Commander Police Major Alvin Llamedo, together with Police Senior Master Sergeant Marissa Manubag, WCPD PNCO.

The Children’s Haven had served as a beacon of hope for children in the vicinity of Carbon Public Market, focusing on holistic development and imparting life skills and values essential for their future. Over the years, this program had evolved into a best practice of PNP, showcasing how police officers can go beyond law enforcement to touch lives meaningfully.

The Christmas for Kids event had epitomized the spirit of giving and inclusivity. Volunteers, including RPCADU 7 personnel, were present in full force, playing with the children, organizing fun activities, and ensuring every child felt valued. The grounds were abuzz with energy as children participated in games, enjoyed treats, and received gifts, their laughter echoing across the park.

PNP personnel had shown that their role extends beyond maintaining peace and order. By organizing and supporting initiatives like this, they remind the community of the importance of fostering happiness and emotional well-being, especially for children.

This event had served not only as a festive celebration but also as a day of healing and hope for the children. For many of them, Christmas for Kids was more than just fun – day, it was a chance perhaps of a lifetime, to experience the magic of childhood in a safe and loving environment.

Through the concerted efforts of the Carbon Police Station 5, RPCADU 7, and the countless volunteers, the event had painted a brighter future for these children, showing them that their community stands by them and for their future. As Cebu I.T. Park had closed its grounds to vehicles, it had opened its heart to those who needed it most, proving that the essence of Christmas lies in bringing joy to all.

As the Children’s Haven continues its journey, initiatives like Christmas for Kids serve as a powerful reminder of what is possible when communities come together. The PNP’s commitment, alongside the generosity of individuals and organizations, had set a precedent for building stronger, more compassionate communities where every child can dream, laugh, thrive, and hope for a better tomorrow.

For these children, the event was a gift of tangible items and of something bigger and far more valuable—of family and a sense of belonging. The smiles on their faces and the spark in their eyes said it all: This was a Christmas they would never forget.
