In an act of true heroism and dedication to public service, the Camalaniugan Police had swiftly responded to a call, saving a newborn baby abandoned in a public restroom. On February 17, 2025, the Camalaniugan PNP had received a call from a concerned citizen reporting the discovery of an abandoned newborn baby girl in the public restroom of the Save Oil Gasoline Station in Barangay Bulala, Camalaniugan in Cagayan. Without hesitation, a team led by PMSg Eileen G. Malazzab, who was on patrol as part of Project POSTE (Police Outpost on the Street for Traffic Direction, Control, and Quick Emergency), had immediately rushed to the location to respond to the emergency call.
Upon arrival, the officers found the helpless infant lying on the cold floor, unclothed and unconscious, with the umbilical cord still attached. Faced with this heartbreaking sight, the officers had acted swiftly, taking great care to ensure the child’s safety, providing immediate care, transporting the baby to the nearest hospital which was the Matilde A. Olivas District Hospital. The immediate response of the medical personnel in that hospital had stabilized the newborn’s condition.
The abandoned newborn is now under the protective custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Camalaniugan. The incident had underscored the vital role of the police in ensuring peace and order but also in saving the lives of those in need.
