Davao de Oro Police joins the Provincial Government Unit’s “Tunol Serbisyo Para sa Katawhan”

Trust serves as the cornerstone of social relationships and this is fundamental to fostering cooperation. The same is true when applied to law enforcement. When there is trust and cooperation between the police and the community, law enforcement operates more efficiently leading to reduced crime rates, improved police investigations, and a safer community.

Traditionally, the Philippine National Police participates in reinforcing the essential role of the community in maintaining peace and fostering nation building. Concurrent with its mission and functions, the Philippine National Police conducts police community activities for a sustained police-community partnership.

On June 18 of this year, Davao de Oro Police Provincial Office under the leadership of Police Colonel Benedicto F. Faco, and the Laak Municipal Station led by Police Major Marietes P Salanguit, Chief of Police, and the Revitalized-Pulis sa Barangay (R-PSB) Cluster 11-A headed by Police Master Sergeant Rodel F. Galindo participated in the “Tunol Serbisyo Para Sa Katawhan”, an initiative by the Provincial Government of Davao de Oro as part of the commemoration of the 2nd Anniversary of Davao De Oro’s designation as an insurgency-free province, showcasing the province’s steadfast dedication to ensuring peace, security, and the well-being of its residents.

The Tunol Serbisyo Para Sa Katawhan Program offered various services such as free medical and dental check-ups with medications and vitamins, free circumcision, animal vaccination, distribution of seedlings and distribution of food packs and others to more or less one thousand residents of Barangay Kadiwa in Laak, Davao de Oro and other nearby barangays. These services were offered by different government agencies. Members of the Philippine National Police provided complementary haircuts, free arrozcaldo (rice porridge), and informational flyers covering critical subjects like Anti-Illegal Drugs, Anti-Terrorism Awareness, Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Law (VAWC), and various anti-crime initiatives. Additionally, a security operation was carried out in the area.

As part of the program, a health forum was conducted by the Provincial Health Office, and an anti-insurgency forum led by the Kalinaw Southeastern Mindanao, an organization composed of former New People’s Army rebels who returned back to the folds of the law and supported government programs.
Overall, the immediate needs of the community were addressed, awareness of support from the government was enhanced, promoting a safer environment for the residents.
