In a significant development, dismissed Mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, Alice Guo, also alluded to as Guo Hua Ping, was apprehended by Indonesian authorities at 11:58 PM Jakarta time on September 3, 2024. She was subsequently brought to Senayan Area in South Jakarta, Indonesia, and is currently being secured by the Indonesia Police.
Guo faces multiple serious charges, including a quo warranto petition, tax evasion, and a non-bailable human trafficking charge, among others.
This arrest marks a significant milestone in international law enforcement cooperation, following extensive collaboration between the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Indonesian National Police, facilitated by a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2017. This agreement encompasses provisions for intelligence exchange and joint efforts to combat transnational crimes.
PNP Chief PGen Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, had expressed gratitude for the support of Indonesian authorities, stating, “We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Indonesian National Police for their cooperation in apprehending Alice Guo. PNP and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) are working diligently to arrange the transfer of custody. Our Police Attaché is in Indonesia, coordinating with local authorities to ensure a smooth and secure transfer of Guo to the Philippines.”
At 8:00 AM in September 5, PGen Marbil had engaged with Indonesian counterparts via Zoom to discuss the specifics of Guo’s custody transfer. Additionally, Secretary of the Interior and Local Government (SILG) Atty. Benhur Abalos, Jr. is actively coordinating with the Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia to facilitate the handover process, ensuring that all diplomatic and legal protocols are meticulously followed.
The PNP’s close and active coordination with the Indonesian National Police underscores the commitment of both nations to combat international crimes and uphold justice.
