PNP Celebrates 34 Years of Service from its Founding with a Renewed Commitment to a Safer Nation

The Philippine National Police (PNP) commemorated its 34th Founding Anniversary on January 20, 2025, with a momentous celebration at Camp BGen Rafael T. Crame in Quezon City. The event highlighted the PNP’s unwavering dedication to public service, honored exemplary personnel, and reinforced the organization’s commitment to a safer, more secure, and progressive nation.

With the theme “Sa Bagong Pilipinas, Kaagapay ang PNP para sa Ligtas, Payapa, at Maunlad na Pamayanan,” the celebration highlighted the crucial role of the PNP in fostering peace and security, in alignment with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s vision of a Bagong Pilipinas.

Kicking off the ceremony, PNP Chief, Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil delivered his welcome remarks, expressing gratitude and pride in the achievements of PNP and the unwavering dedication of its personnel.

“This occasion is a time for reflection and gratitude as we honor the rich legacy of the Philippine National Police and recognize the dedication of the men and women who tirelessly serve to uphold peace, security, and public service,” he stated.

PGen Marbil emphasized that PNP Day is not just about commemorating past achievements, but also about reaffirming the commitment to serve with integrity and professionalism. “Today’s celebration is more than just a commemoration of our achievements as an institution—it is a testament to our collective commitment to serve the Filipino people with integrity and dedication. We honor not only our uniformed personnel but also our Non-Uniformed Personnel, whose invaluable contributions ensure the success of our organization,” he remarked.

He also paid tribute to fallen police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, vowing that their heroism will never be forgotten. “We also take this opportunity to remember and honor our fallen heroes—those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their courage and dedication inspire us to continue their noble mission of serving the Filipino people,” he said.

Following the welcome remarks, an audio-visual presentation showcased the history, achievements, and milestones of PNP over the past 34 years.

The event then proceeded with the Presentation of Awards, recognizing outstanding PNP personnel and stakeholders who have significantly contributed to the success of the organization.

Espinoza, wife of the late PSSg Jhon Vargas Espinoza, Police Regional Office 3; and Mrs. Maria Luisa A. Valdez, wife of the late Pat Ian G. Valdez, Special Action Force.

The celebration’s Guest of Honor and Speaker, Hon. Juanito Victor C. Remulla Jr., Secretary of the Interior and Local Government (SILG), was represented by Atty. Ricardo P. Bernabe III, Vice Chairperson and Executive Officer of the National Police Commission. In his speech, he lauded the PNP’s accomplishments, particularly its role in crime reduction, cybersecurity efforts, and internal cleansing initiatives.

“It is reassuring to see that PNP is making significant progress in creating a safer, crime-free environment for our country,” Atty. Bernabe stated on behalf of SILG Remulla. “Through diligent law enforcement, heightened police visibility, and collaborative efforts with various sectors, we have seen a decrease in index crime volume from 38,404 in 2023 to 34,841 in 2024. Likewise, cybercrimes dropped by 31.8 percent, with 14,529 reports in 2024 compared to 21,300 in 2023.”

He also stressed the importance of maintaining organizational integrity through the PNP’s internal cleansing program, ensuring that rogue officers are held accountable. Looking ahead, he acknowledged the heavier responsibilities that the police force will face in 2025, including ensuring a peaceful and orderly midterm elections, securing the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) for its first autonomous elections, and preparing for the country’s hosting of the ASEAN Summit in 2026.

“As we celebrate the foundation of PNP, may today be a reminder of the pride and honor we bring to our country whenever we fulfill our duties with integrity, honesty, and excellence,” SILG Remulla’s message concluded. “Together, we can contribute to the aspirations of Bagong Pilipinas that is safe, secure, peaceful,and progressive.”

The 34th PNP Day served as a reaffirmation of the organization’s unwavering dedication to its mandate—to serve and protect the Filipino people. With the continued support of the national government, stakeholders, and law enforcement partners, the PNP remains steadfast in its vision of being “Mahusay, Matatag, at Maasahan na Kapulisan.”

The event concluded with a call to action for all members of the police force to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and service, ensuring that PNP remains a trusted institution in the new era of Bagong Pilipinas.
