In a solemn ceremony held on February 7, 2025, at the PNP General Hospital in Camp Crame, Quezon City, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, visited Police Chief Master Sergeant (PCMS) Deogracias N. Basang to honor his acts of heroism and unwavering commitment to duty. PCMS Basang was awarded the Medalya ng Kadakilaan (PNP Heroism Medal) and Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting (PNP Wounded Medal) for his extraordinary bravery during a police operation in Pasig City.
On February 2, 2025, PCMS Basang, along with fellow operatives from the Marikina City Police Station, successfully carried out a warrant of arrest in connection with two murder cases. During the operation, Basang and his team encountered resistance when the suspect attempted to flee in his vehicle after drawing a firearm. In the ensuing road chase, PCMS Basang was struck by the suspect’s vehicle, which caused significant injuries to the officer while the suspect collided with two other vehicles.
Despite the injury, PCMS Basang demonstrated remarkable courage and continued to play a crucial role in the operation, which ultimately led to the suspect’s arrest. His actions above and beyond the call of duty exemplify the highest standards of service and dedication expected of the PNP personnel.
The Medalya ng Kadakilaan was awarded to PCMS Basang for his exceptional heroism above and beyond the call of duty. The Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting was conferred in recognition of the injuries he sustained while protecting the public and upholding the law.
