Crime has long been a major challenge for any society affecting individuals, communities, and the whole nation. This phenomenon holds profound implications, not just for safety and well-being but also for economic growth, governance, and social stability. However, its escalation can be suppressed with the continuous proactive efforts and interventions of the police force.
On record, the Philippine National Police through the leadership of Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, PNP Chief had disclosed the apparent difference in the statistical index crimes covering the periods from January to December 15, 2024 and January to December 15, 2023. Compared to the index crimes reported in 2023, there was a 15.39% drop in index crimes in 2024. A total number of 9,941 focus crime incidents occurred in 2024 lower than the 11,749 committed incidents during the same period last year.
The continuing decrease in incidents were attributed to PNP’s improved enforcement and awareness campaigns, consistent implementation of numerous policies including intensified police visibility, intelligence-driven operations, community-based programs, strengthened partnerships with other agencies, and improved crime reporting and monitoring systems, among others. Among the highlighted PNP efforts include the arrest of infamous Apollo Quiboloy and Alice Guo; historic drug bust, seizure of Php13.3 Billion worth of shabu, and arrest of a Canadian National in Alitagtag, Batangas; and the closure of (Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators) POGO hubs in the country.
In a previous press briefing facilitated by PNP Spokesperson PBGen Jean S. Fajardo, she underscored the directive of PNP Chief PGen Marbil to continuously implement police interventions to maintain the decreasing crime rate, especially with the upcoming holiday season. “At ang kabilin-bilinan niya sa mga commanders is to strictly supervise yung ating mga tauhan sa baba dahil ang sinasabi ng ating chief PNP itong ating mga subordinates, yung ating mga foot patrols lalong-lalo na sila yung representation ng PNP. So, dapat makitaan sila na mismong sila ang tapat sa tungkulin kasi kung ano yung gagawin nung mga nasa baba nagre-reflect yan sa kabuuan ng PNP,” said PBGen Fajardo.
