PNP Maritime Group seizes Php2.86M Worth of Smuggled Cigarettes

On April 1, 2025, a joint operation led by the Zamboanga Maritime Police Station, under the leadership of Police Major Benito S. Siddayao Jr., in coordination with the Bureau of Customs (BOC) Zamboanga City and local authorities, resulted in the successful arrest of three individuals and the confiscation of smuggled cigarettes worth Php2,865,000 in Zamboanga City.

The operation targeted a vehicle suspected of transporting smuggled cigarettes. Upon inspection, authorities discovered approximately 50 boxes of cigarettes that were found to be non-compliant with the regulations under Republic Act No. 10643 and Republic Act No. 10863.

The confiscated items included 10 master cases of New Berlin Red, 20 master cases of Fort, 10 master cases of Cannon, and 10 master cases of Bravo (White and Red). The closed van used to transport the said contraband was also seized.

The suspects failed to present the necessary documents, leading to their immediate arrest. The seized items, along with the suspects, were brought to the Zamboanga City Maritime Police Station for proper documentation and disposition.

The PNP Maritime Group (PNP-MG), led by its Director, Police Brigadier General Jonathan A. Cabal, has reiterated its commitment to intensifying efforts against smuggling and other forms of illicit trade within its jurisdiction. In coordination with partner agencies, PNP continues to bolster law enforcement operations to protect public welfare and ensure national security.
