Police Swift Response Ensures Justice will Prevail

Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, PNP Chief, commended the PNP personnel for their swift response to an attempted ambush in Parañaque City on April 7, 2025, which resulted to the successful arrest of six individuals, including two Chinese nationals.

According to reports, at around 12:20 in the afternoon, personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) were transporting a Person Deprived of Liberty named Hu Yang, a 37-year-old Chinese national who was arrested in September last year. He had just attended a court hearing from the Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 235 and was being brought back to the BJMP facility in Barangay La Huerta, Parañaque, onboard a BJMP transport vehicle. As they traversed the service road beside Cavitex, their convoy was suddenly intercepted by two vehicles—a black sedan and a Mitsubishi Expander—carrying armed suspects who opened fire on the BJMP personnel.

Despite the surprise attack, one of the BJMP officers had managed to immediately return fire, hitting one of the vehicles. However, one officer sustained a gunshot wound and was immediately taken to the Ospital ng Parañaque for medical treatment. The suspects in the black sedan fled toward the Bulungan area, while those in the Mitsubishi Expander  crashed into a tree at the Wetland Park. Those in the latter attempted to escape on foot into the nearby mangrove forest. Reinforcements from the San Dionisio Sub-Station and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit of the Parañaque Police Station headed by Police Colonel Melvin Riataza Montante, Chief of Police, had arrived shortly thereafter and initiated a hot pursuit operation which led to the apprehension of the suspects.

The arrested individuals included four Filipino males and two Chinese nationals. Authorities seized illegal items from their possession, including a replica grenade; a bundle of U.S. dollar bills; a caliber .357 Magnum revolver with live ammunition; suspected illegal drugs; and assorted drug paraphernalia. Forensic experts had processed the scene, while efforts to locate the remaining suspects and the firearms used in the ambush are ongoing as of this writing.

The PNP leadership emphasized the significance of the swift response and bravery exhibited by law enforcement during such attempted escape. This incident highlights the ongoing threats posed by criminal groups operating in the country.

Chief PNP, Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, underscored the importance of continued vigilance and readiness to respond, stating: “Our law enforcement agencies remain committed to confronting those who challenge the rule of law. This incident is a testament to our resolve in protecting communities and ensuring justice. We will pursue all leads to ensure those responsible are held accountable.”

“In line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., we are intensifying our efforts against organized crime and working to safeguard the Filipino people from those who seek to bring harm and violence to our streets”, he added.

Meanwhile, on March 31, the PNP Top Cop personally led in the awarding of medals to eight personnel of the Antipolo Component City Police Station in recognition to their timely and immediate response that led to the arrest of an armed suspect who was involved in a road rage shooting incident on March 30. The ceremony was held at the Antipolo CCPS  and was attended by various senior officials of the Police Regional Office 4A, led by Police Brigadier General Paul Kenneth T. Lucas, Regional Director, together with Police Colonel Felipe Maraggun, Provincial Director of Rizal Police Provincial Office.

Among the police officers awarded with the Medalya ng Kagalingan were Police Lieutenant Orlando Santos Jalmasco; Police Chief Master Sergeant Ranel Delos Santos Cruz; Police Corporals Kaveen John Rubia Vea, Joeban Acosta Abendaño, and Niño Cipriano Chavez; and Patrolmen Reylan Rivarez De Chavez, Michael Keith Lalican Panganiban, and John Mark Bacli Manahan.

PGen Marbil likewise lauded the said personnel for their swift and courageous action, which reflected the PNP’s dedication to public safety.

“Due to the prompt response of our policemen, a more serious incident was prevented and the suspect was immediately apprehended. This is the kind of professionalism and dedication that the PNP promotes. We will continue to be vigilant to ensure peace and justice for our citizens,” said General Marbil.

The suspect will be facing various criminal charges, and authorities assured  the public that justice will prevail.
