‘Pasigarbo sa Sugbo’, which simply means ‘Pride of Cebu’, is a cultural festival as well as the founding anniversary celebration of the Queen City/Province of the South. This yearly celebration, which was organized by the provincial government, is considered to be the grandest showcase of cultural festivals of various cities and municipalities of the province often dubbed as “festival of festivals.”
Alongside the excitement of the Sugbuanons in celebrating Pasigarbo sa Sugbo is the extensive preparations undertaken by the Police Regional Office 7 (PRO7) to ensure safety and security throughout the event. From the planning stages to the actual event, PRO 7 had implemented proactive measures, such as intelligence gathering, surveillance, and strategic personnel deployments.
The Regional Director of PRO7, PBGen Anthony A. Aberin, congratulates the Cebu City Police Office headed by PCol Antonietto Ybañez Cañete, the Acting City Director and other police units involved, including community volunteers, force multipliers, partner agencies, and other law enforcement agencies for a very safe and secure Pasigarbo sa Sugbo 2024.
PBGen Aberin emphasized that the security coverage for the event was a collaborative effort among Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection and National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, and other stakeholders.
The grand showdown wrapped up successfully at about 4:00 AM on August 26, 2024, with more than 16,000 spectators, including foreign tourists and notable personalities, witnessing performances from the 51 participating contingents representing various municipalities and cities across Cebu province.
Coordination between agencies was flawless, facilitating a smooth and efficient execution of the event. This was also complemented with a well-organized preparation from the event organizers which helped PRO7 in ensuring the safety and security of everyone.
“Our success in securing high-profile events in the region manifests a highly favorable security landscape designed to show that Central Visayas is one of the safest areas in the country”, PBGen Aberin said.
Pasigarbo sa Sugbo 2024 was concluded with great pride and a resounding success, consistent with PRO7’s unyielding commitment to public safety through the extensive measures implemented to secure the event. The efforts of the men and women on the ground really paid off as there were no major incidents recorded.
Pasigarbo sa Sugbo 2024, a vibrant and festive event, had, indeed, cultivated a deep sense of community and camaraderie, with contingents from across Cebu province coming together to celebrate the region’s vibrant cultural heritage.
