Service Beyond Duty: Policewomen’s Heroic Rescue to a Mother in Labor in Dumaran, Palawan

Unconditional commitment to service is what makes a great police officer. Amidst extreme challenges, an innate embodiment of a profound sense of responsibility has always been shown. It often extends beyond the confines of their scheduled duties, whatever and whenever circumstances arise. This dedication to the community encourages the people to trust and truly regard the organization as reliable in emergencies, which calls service beyond duty.

In the serene town of Dumaran in Palawan, an extraordinary act of heroism unfolded, becoming a beacon of hope and inspiration. Six police officers have displayed dedication and unwavering courage upon stepping up to help those in need. With a sense of readiness and great concern, the officers, without hesitation, selflessly responded to a mother in labor named Mrs. Suson at Bahay Paanakan, Barangay Magsaysay in the said town where they have conducted an immersion on Revitalized-Pulis sa Barangay (R-PSB). The six policewomen, off-duty at that time, were identified as PCpl Andrea R. Guinto, Pat Jonamaei S. Semilla, Pat Jessa Cristy M. Lagrosa, Pat Lovely D. Agarap, Pat Joy D. Borja, and Pat Elaine Nica Piopongco of R-PSB Team of 2nd Palawan PMFC.

During midnight of July 16, 2024, police officers were alerted of an emergency by one barangay health midwife, Mrs. Vilma B. Abrew, who knocked to seek help for a woman currently experiencing labor. After a day of serving in the community and having a rare moment of respite, these policewomen hurriedly assisted, providing help at a critical time. Seeing through the pain and uneasiness in the mother’s face, the timely intervention of the six policewomen created an immense relief and saved two lives. A lovely boy was born. The mother and the new-born were transported to the nearest medical facility to receive the necessary after-care.

That particular moment of action underscored the deep connection between law enforcers and the community they serve, proving that police officers are available 24/7. Incidents like this, though unexpected, serve as reminders to the community that law enforcers live by the principle of serving and protecting the people, anytime and anywhere. This remarkable story exemplifies the true spirit of public service, elevating trust and respect, and highlighting the good relationship between PNP and the community.
