On January 17, 2025, a routine checkpoint operation in Barangay Mapalad, Arayat in Pampanga, led to a significant breakthrough in the fight against illegal drugs. A high-stake pursuit had resulted to the arrest of a 39-year-old suspect and the confiscation of 334 grams of suspected shabu, valued at Php2,271,200.
The sequence of events began at approximately 11:50 PM on January 16, 2025, when police at a PNP-COMELEC checkpoint had flagged down a motorcycle rider identified only as “Bert,” a resident of Barangay San Vicente in Cabiao, Nueva Ecija. Instead of complying with the command to stop, the suspect chose to flee, heading toward the town proper of Arayat. This prompted law enforcement officers to initiate an immediate pursuit.
The chase, which spanned through multiple barangays, had ended at around 12:30 AM in Barangay Plazang Luma where the suspect was apprehended. During the arrest, officers had discovered 334 grams of a white crystalline substance in the suspect’s possession, believed to be shabu. The confiscated drugs’ street value underscores the magnitude of this interception.
The suspect now faces serious legal consequences, including charges of resisting arrest and violations of Sections 11 and 12, Article II of Republic Act 9165, commonly referred to as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. This law is pivotal in addressing drug-related offenses in the country.
PBGen Jean S. Fajardo, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 3, commended the swift actions of the checkpoint personnel and pursuing officers. “This operation proves the critical role that checkpoints play in ensuring the safety of our communities. It sends a clear message that our law enforcement personnel are vigilant, proactive, and resolute in the fight against crime, particularly illegal drugs. This arrest demonstrates our commitment to enforcing election regulations and dismantling illegal drug networks, ensuring a safer and more secure region for all,” PBGen Fajardo stated.
