Fostering Hope and Support
In a remote area of Maddela, Quirino, particularly in Sitio Sang-Aydi, life is deemed difficult. Sitio Sang-Aydi is a Geographically Isolated Disadvantaged Area (GIDA) longing for support. The people face many challenges and do not have access to the things they needed for a good life. The 2nd Quirino Provincial Mobile Force Company (QPMFC), led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Michael M. Alberto, decided to lend a helping hand one special day, and somehow everything changed. It embarked on a historic mission to reach out the community.
The journey to Sang-Aydi was filled with obstacles since it was the first time that PNP has visited the place. The terrain was rugged, and the Team had to cross 17 rivers to reach their destination. Despite the difficulties, the members trudged on and persevered. They were joined by the Company Advisory Group and the Quirino Officers Ladies Club, all visibly excited in their mission to bring relief to the community.
Their arrival at Sang-Aydi Elementary School was greeted by the people who were filled with joy and gratitude. The 2nd QPMFC team, together with stakeholders, came bearing gifts for the children – brand new slippers, soft towels, colorful books, fun toys, and essential school supplies. For the parents, there were also donations of pre-loved clothing, spiced up with gestures of warmth and solidarity. The sight of the children’s smiles warmed the hearts of everyone present. The generosity extended to the parents as well, who received various donations, a reminder that they were not forgotten in their struggles.
It wasn’t just about material gifts; it was about fostering a sense of community and trust between law enforcement and the people they serve. The assistance didn’t stop with the material gifts. The police officers also set up a barber station, though only a makeshift, it offered free haircuts to all villagers. This act of kindness went beyond mere possessions, because it symbolizes the effort to forge a strong bond between law enforcement and the community they serve.
In an interview, Police Lieutenant Colonel Michael M. Alberto expressed that this was the beginning of their commitment to Sang-Aydi and other underserved areas. “Wherever there is a need, we will be there,” he vowed. Their commitment was fueled by the Bayanihan Spirit, a Filipino value of communal unity and cooperation in times of need.
As the 2nd QPMFC bids farewell to Sang-Aydi, leaving behind smiling faces and gratitude, they carried with them the fulfillment of their duty and the promise of a brighter tomorrow and beyond for Sitio Sang-Aydi. The determination to continue making a positive difference in the lives of others will be foremost in its tasks towards a Bagong Pilipinas!
