Trusted Leadership: Assuring the Filipino People

President Ferdinand R. “Bong Bong” Marcos Jr., issued a four-month extension to Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil’s term as Chief of the Philippine National Police, underscoring his vote of confidence and trust to the latter’s leadership.

In a press briefing held on February 6, 2025 at Camp BGen Rafael T Crame, PNP PIO Spokesperson and concurrent Regional Director PBGen Jean S Fajardo had affirmed that PNP Chief General Rommel Francisco D Marbil will continue his firm stance in intensifying police operations and strengthening community partnership to address evolving security challenges, in the process, creating safer communities and a more resilient nation. She had also emphasized the Chief’s dedication in ensuring a peaceful, orderly, and successful election in May.

Earlier, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin had signed the Memorandum dated February 4, stating that the President had approved the extension of Marbil’s government service. The memorandum was addressed to Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla. The 2025 midterm election was the biggest reason in extending the PNP Chief’s term. Also, crucial law enforcement and peacekeeping matters had been set and are not to be shaken by any deterrent or change in the policies of the police force because of the campaign period.

PGen Marbil was named as the country’s PNP Chief on April 1, 2024, and his compulsory retirement was originally set for February 7, 2025 upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56. “With this extension, I am deeply honored and grateful for the trust, confidence, and unwavering support of our President. I assure him, and the entire Filipino nation, that I will remain steadfast in upholding the PNP’s commitment to serve with integrity, professionalism, and dedication. This extension allows me to focus and work harder on our preparations for the 2025 national and local elections, ensuring that we deliver peaceful, credible, fair, and honest elections,” said Chief PNP Marbil.

Meanwhile, DILG Secretary Jonvic C. Remulla warmly supports the decision of His Excellency President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to extend PNP Chief PGen Marbil’s term. In his formal statement released on February 7 through the official DILG website, he said, “The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) welcomes the announcement of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. on the extension of the term of Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Gen. Rommel Francisco D. Marbil by four months. Marbil’s term extension will allow him to continue his crime prevention and law enforcement initiatives. It will also ensure stability in PNP especially in the preparations for the upcoming national and local elections in May this year. DILG fully supports PNP and its leadership in the mission to uphold peace, security, and the rule of law across the nation.”

Under his leadership, PNP remains determined in its mission to uphold the safety and security of the public, and ensure that no violence, intimidation, or fraud occur in the upcoming elections. PGen Marbil’s vision is clear – lead an organization that is strong, responsive, and steadfast in its mission to create a safer and more peaceful Philippines for all.
