Leading the Monday Flag Raising Ceremony held at Camp BGen Rafael T Crame on May 6, 2024, a month after his assumption to office, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief PGen Rommel Francisco D Marbil called on PNP personnel to value time and good well-being for a high quality public service.
PGen Marbil, highlighting the significance of time in public service, commenced the ceremony by affirming the “simple” changes made and felt by the PNP personnel since the first day of April 2024. He gave emphasis on time as it has become less prioritized than it should be.
In his speech, PGen Marbil said police officers must counter the norm of making clients wait. Instead, he said, make it a habit to always regard them as top priority.
“Since paulit ulit na nating ginagawa [ang programa], akala na ninyo normal ang paghihintay ng mga tao….We have to value our time. Our time is so precious. Kulang pa yan para pagserbisyuhan ang mga tao,” Marbil stressed.
He also emphasized in his speech to always stay decisive and righteous – filtering out what we hear and believe in.
“I just want to say that there is a difference between a wise man and a fool. A wise man talks because he has something to say. A fool talks because he has to say something,” CPNP pointed out.
This has come to his knowledge and has become one of the program highlights after some circulating issues regarding the cutting down of PNP personnel’s monthly distribution of rice subsidy, including the CIP-CDP.
In a calm yet confident tone, PGen Marbil reminded the PNP personnel not be one of the fools who come up with so much stories that put the organization in an awkward position. Instead, all personnel should have an aligned mindset– to remain steadfast in the PNP’s vision – that is, to be a highly capable, effective and credible police service working in partnership with a responsive community towards the attainment of a safer place to live, work and do business.
Another course of action emphasized in his speech was the mission of every PNP personnel to safeguard and look out for their welfare. Generally, it has become a priority to every police officer to serve the public, but sometimes, if not always, they forget that their welfare, too, is a must to be efficient and effective.
PGen Marbil made it clear in his speech that he will do to the best of his capability as the head of the organization to provide utmost support to his people. Thinking out loud, he mentioned the possibility of giving health cards to every police officer. In return, the PNP personnel must do their part to give the best service to the Filipino people.
“Hindi ko po alam kung matutuloy po ito. Ang pangarap namin is to have yung health card for every policeman. This is what we’re trying to do para iisa lang po ang iisipin ninyo. Ibibigay po naming lahat para sa pulis natin. Pero isa lang ang request namin sa inyo. Do the best para sa mga tao natin, sa mga kliyente natin. Let us give them the best public service,” PGen Marbil said.
Concluding his speech, he reminded the police force to take extra care, especially in beating the scorching heat; and giving the best public service to the people. The whole PNP has one thing in mind for the people – “Sa Bagong Pilipinas, ang Gusto ng Pulis, Ligtas Ka.”
