PNP Chief Highlights 30.43% Drop in Focus Crimes, Opens 31st Police Community Relations Month

On the first Monday of July, the Philippine National Police (PNP), led by Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief, PNP, held its Traditional Monday Flag Raising Ceremony on July 6, 2026, at Camp BGen Rafael T Crame in Quezon City. The ceremony was attended by members of the PNP Command Group, Directorial Staff, Personal Staff, Directors of the National Support Units, and other uniformed and non-uniformed personnel.

In his message, PGen Nartatez commended all PNP personnel, augmentation forces, local government units, emergency responders, traffic management teams, and partner agencies for ensuring the generally peaceful conduct of the recently concluded three-day public assembly. He lauded their professionalism, vigilance, discipline, and restraint in preserving public order while upholding every Filipino’s constitutional right to assemble peacefully.

The PNP Chief likewise recognized the successful implementation of warrants of arrest conducted by the Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO BAR), the PNP Special Action Force, in close coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), against the Periodic Status Report (PSR)-listed Number 1 Most Wanted Person in PRO BAR. The suspect, identified as the Chairman of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF)-Bungos Faction, carried a Php3-Million reward and was wanted for multiple heinous crimes. He was also linked to the armed group implicated in the March 20, 2026 ambush of PNP personnel in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao del Sur.

PGen Nartatez also reminded all police personnel of their responsibility to remain impartial, disciplined, and faithful to their oath as the organization prepares to secure the Senate impeachment proceedings. He emphasized that the PNP serves neither personalities nor political interests but remains steadfast in serving the Constitution, upholding the rule of law, and protecting the Filipino people.

During the ceremony, PGen Nartatez, exercising the authority vested in him as Ex-Officio Member of the National Police Commission, also officially declared the opening of the 31st Police Community Relations (PCR) Month Celebration and called on all PNP personnel to renew their commitment to become not only effective law enforcers but also trusted partners of every Filipino.

With this year’s theme, “Sa Bagong Pilipinas, Ugnayang Pulis at Mamamayan, Tapat, Maaasahan, at Nararamdaman ng Bayan,” he highlighted that the celebration continues to underscore the importance of strengthening police-community partnerships. The observance traces its roots to Proclamation No. 783, signed on April 12, 1996, which originally designated January as PCR Month. Through Presidential Proclamation No. 764, the celebration was later moved to July.

Following the flag-raising ceremony, the PNP Chief led a press briefing where he presented the PNP’s accomplishments in peace and order and law enforcement operations for June 2026. PNP reported a significant improvement in the country’s peace and order situation, with focus crime incidents declining by 30.43% compared to the same period last year. This accomplishment reflects the sustained impact of intensified police operations, enhanced crime prevention initiatives, and stronger collaboration with local government units, partner agencies, and communities nationwide.

Among the eight focus crimes monitored by the PNP, carnapping of motor vehicles posted the highest decrease, dropping by 66.67%, from 27 incidents in June 2025 to only nine cases in June 2026. Rape cases declined by 57.25%, from 697 to 298 incidents, while physical injury cases decreased by 40.15%, from 406 to 243 cases.

Other focus crimes also recorded sustained reductions. Homicide cases dropped by 27.38%, from 84 to 61 cases; carnapping of motorcycles declined by 25.93%, from 189 to 140 incidents; robbery decreased by 23.23%, from 310 to 238 cases; theft fell by 16.59%, from 1,067 to 890 incidents; and murder declined by 11.60%, from 293 to 259 cases.

The PNP Top Cop attributed these positive developments to the continued implementation of the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly under the Enhanced Managing Police Operations. He emphasized that intensified law enforcement operations, increased police visibility, focused crime prevention strategies, and stronger partnerships with communities continue to advance the organization’s mantra: “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.”

On crime solution efforts, PGen Nartatez highlighted the conviction of seven individuals involved in a high-profile kidnapping-for-ransom case that occurred in September 2025. He also cited the recent arrest of three suspects linked to the kidnapping-slay case in Leyte, underscoring the PNP’s sustained commitment to delivering justice through thorough investigations and close coordination with prosecutors and the courts.

The PNP Chief likewise announced the activation of the PNP’s comprehensive security and deployment plan for the opening of the Senate impeachment proceedings. He assured the public that the police force has implemented appropriate security measures to maintain peace and order while fully respecting the constitutional rights of all concerned.

PNP reiterated its commitment to sustaining its gains in peace and order, continuing to implement programs that strengthen public trust, and remaining steadfast in its mandate to serve and protect. Through strong community partnerships and unwavering adherence to the rule of law, the Nation’s Peacekeepers continue to pursue their vision of a safer, more secure, and more peaceful Bagong Pilipinas.
