A majority of Filipinos feel safe in their communities, according to the latest Tugon ng Masa (TNM) Survey of OCTA Research, a finding welcomed by the Philippine National Police (PNP) as an encouraging indication of public confidence in community safety and peace and order.
The Q2 2026 TNM Survey, conducted among 1,200 adult Filipinos from July 4 to 11, 2026, found that 72 percent of respondents said they feel safe in their neighborhoods. Meanwhile, 68 percent said they are not afraid to walk alone at night, while 54 percent said they are not worried about robbers breaking into their homes.
For Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief, PNP, the results are encouraging as they reflect not only public perceptions of safety but also how people feel in their own communities.
“We welcome this feedback from our fellow Filipinos. But for us, this is not a reason to slow down. If people feel safer, then we have to work even harder to keep it that way. We have to stay visible, respond when people need us, and listen to what our communities are telling us. Ang seguridad, hindi lang dapat nakikita sa mga numero—it should be something people actually feel in their daily lives,” he said.
The PNP said the survey results reinforce the importance of sustained police presence, timely response, and close coordination with communities under the Enhanced Managing Police Operations (EMPO), one of the pillars of the PNP Focused Agenda.
Beyond police operations, the PNP continues to strengthen community partnerships and preventive efforts, recognizing that lasting peace and order cannot be achieved through police action alone. Local government units, community leaders, and the public remain vital partners in keeping neighborhoods safe.
“May mga hamon pa rin, at marami pa tayong kailangang gawin. But we appreciate the confidence reflected in these numbers. Our responsibility now is to sustain it, strengthen it, and earn that trust every single day,” PGen Nartatez added.
The PNP emphasized that public safety is measured not only by crime statistics but also by people’s confidence to go home, move around their communities, and carry out their daily activities without fear.
