The Philippine National Police (PNP), under the leadership of Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Acting PNP Chief, remains firmly committed in its anti-criminality campaigns to ensure public safety and security across the country.
In line with the 7-Point Agenda of the PNP Top Cop on “Employing Enhanced Police Operations (EMPO),” the Police Regional Office 8 (PRO 8), led by Police Brigadier General Jason L. Capoy, Regional Director, has continuously intensified its Simultaneous Anti-Criminality Law Enforcement Operations (SACLEO) to maintain peace and order in the region.
On September 4, 2025, the Leyte Police Provincial Office (LPPO), under the leadership of Police Colonel Dionisio DC Apas Jr., Provincial Director, conducted dragnet operations that led to the successful apprehension of two individuals involved in a shooting incident in Barangay Uyawan, Carigara, Leyte.
The victim, identified as alias “Gregor,” a widower and farmer, was shot while chopping firewood outside his residence. The gunman, alias “Jerry,” fired from a vehicle driven by alias “Roy,” before fleeing the scene. The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.
Upon receiving the report about the incident, Carigara Municipal Police Station (MPS) immediately launched a hot pursuit operation and coordinated dragnet operations with the neighboring police stations. Within an hour, at around 4:35 PM, the Babatngon MPS successfully intercepted the suspects at a checkpoint in Sitio Tab-ang, Barangay Babatngon, District 3, which resulted in their arrest.
Recovered from alias “Jerry” were four live rounds and a .45 caliber handgun with a magazine. As of this writing, both suspects are under the custody of Carigara MPS, while criminal charges are being prepared against them.

Meanwhile, PCol Apas commended the swift and coordinated response of the Leyte police officers that led in the immediate arrest of the suspect, stating: “This operation proves that lawless elements cannot outrun justice. Through rapid coordination, real-time intelligence sharing, and the strategic use of communication equipment, our units successfully intercepted the suspects within the hour. The seamless exchange of information across stations and [strong] community support were instrumental to our swift response. LPPO remains firmly committed to its mission of making Leyte a safer, more secure place for all its residents.”
Likewise, PBGen Capoy lauded the police operatives for their prompt action to arrest the criminals, stating: “This successful arrest shows the dedication and swift action of our police, along with valuable community cooperation. We will continue to intensify our operations to ensure the safety of our people nd hold criminals ccountable.”
