The Police Regional Office 8 observed the peaceful conduct of the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) Meet 2024 in six days, from May 5 to May 10, 2024 at the Ormoc City Sports Complex.
Since the competition’s commencement on May 5, 2024, no significant unpleasant incidents have been reported during the week-long sporting competition, according to official reports.
The Ormoc City government hosted the EVRAA 2024, the region’s biggest sporting event. From the 13 School Divisions in Eastern Visayas, around 9,834 participants, including coaches and student-athletes, traveled to the city for the occasion.
PRO 8 has implemented enhanced security protocols, to ensure the utmost safety of both delegates and spectators. There are 892 PNP personnel deploy and an additional 2,000 security personnel from other agencies sent to secure the sporting event.
The Ormoc City Police Office led by PCol Nelvin M. Ricohermoso, City Director, implemented comprehensive security measures in collaboration with the military, other law enforcement agencies and force multipliers, as part of the EVRAA Meet Security Plan. Strict rules and security measures were implemented in all of the playing venues, billeting quarters, and areas of convergence within the city.
Furthermore, medical personnel and emergency response teams were on standby in case of critical medical circumstances that needed immediate attention. Despite the rising heat index, officials reported that there had been no complaints of major physical ailments or game delays.
PBGen Reynaldo H. Pawid, PRO 8 Director, lauded all security personnel for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the EVRAA Meet 2024. He likewise expressed gratitude for the cooperation of the public which greatly contributed to the event’s success.
“The peaceful and orderly conduct of the EVRAA Meet 2024 reflects the unwavering dedication of our security personnel and partner agencies to proactively address emerging threats and uphold the highest standards of safety. PRO 8 remains steadfast in its commitment to create a safe and secure environment for all,” he added.
