On August 26, 2026, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), joined the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Final Command Conference for the 2026 Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections (BPE) at the Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO BAR) Headquarters, Camp Brigadier General Salipada K. Pendatun, Maguindanao del Norte.
The conference brought together key government officials and security leaders to prepare for the region’s first parliamentary elections and ensure a coordinated, comprehensive security strategy.
Among the officials present were Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Juanito Victor C. Remulla Jr.; General Antonio G. Nafarrete, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP); Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) Secretary Mel S. Sarmiento; and COMELEC Chairman George Erwin M. Garcia.
The meeting focused on vital election security concerns, including threat assessment, deployment readiness, operational planning, and inter-agency coordination. These discussions ensure that all concerned agencies are prepared to respond effectively to emerging security concerns before, during, and after the historic electoral exercise.
The preparations form part of the PNP’s continuing efforts under its Focused Agenda to strengthen police operations, enhance inter-agency cooperation, and promote public safety and security. With the BPE marking a significant milestone for the Bangsamoro region, the PNP recognizes the importance of ensuring that the electoral exercise is conducted peacefully and credibly.
The PNP continues to work closely with COMELEC, DILG, AFP, OPAPRU, and other partner agencies to safeguard the electoral process and create a secure environment where voters can exercise their constitutional right without fear, intimidation, or disruption.
While the PNP strengthened its preparations for the upcoming elections in the Bangsamoro, the organization also marked a significant leadership milestone as PGen Nartatez celebrated his first anniversary as Chief, PNP.
On the same day, the PNP held a Thanksgiving Mass at St. Joseph Chapel, Camp Crame, Quezon City, bringing together PNP officials, uniformed personnel, and non-uniformed personnel in a solemn celebration of gratitude for God’s guidance, protection, and blessings throughout the past year.
The gathering provided the PNP family an opportunity to reflect on the organization’s accomplishments, challenges, and milestones under the leadership of PGen Nartatez. These achievements were made possible through the collective efforts, dedication, professionalism, and commitment of every police officer and non-uniformed personnel in the organization.
The occasion also underscored the importance of unity and shared responsibility in fulfilling the PNP’s mandate to protect the people, maintain peace and order, and ensure public safety.
From strengthening election security and inter-agency cooperation to sustaining its transformation and modernization initiatives, the PNP continues to pursue programs and reforms aligned with its Focused Agenda. These efforts are anchored on responsive, accountable, and people-centered policing that seeks to build greater public trust and deliver meaningful service to communities.
