“Dream to Serve, Called to Lead”

Where does the dream to serve begin?

For many, it is shaped by the people around them—parents who inspire discipline, grandparents who instill values, or relatives who once wore the uniform with pride. Some are drawn to the symbol of the uniform itself, carrying a lifelong aspiration to wear it one day.

Yet beyond these beginnings lies a deeper truth: the moment one becomes a man or woman in uniform; the dream transforms into reality.

Service demands sacrifice. It means missing birthdays, anniversaries, and family milestones. It means standing watch while others celebrate, choosing duty over comfort, and placing the needs of the nation above personal interests. In an organization where service must always come first, presence is often defined not by where one is absent, but by where one is needed most.

They say experience is the best teacher, but in uniformed service, learning often comes through action—through real-life decisions, consequences and responsibility.

This reality became clear for the 326 newly commissioned Police Lieutenants of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) “Silang-Paglaom” Class of 2026, who formally entered the ranks of the Philippine National Police (PNP) during the Donning of Ranks, Badge of Honor Ceremony, and Presentation of Unit Assignment held on April 14, 2026, at Camp BGen Rafael T Crame in Quezon City.

The ceremony was led by PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., together with the PNP Command Group, who personally donned the ranks and bestowed the PNP Badge of Honor upon the newly appointed officers. The event marked a significant transition from cadets shaped by discipline and training to full-fledged Police Lieutenants entrusted with the responsibility of public service. Also in attendance during the event were the families of the newly commissioned officers and other PNP officials.

In his message, PGen Nartatez emphasized the significance of the occasion, calling it a defining moment in the lives of the graduates.

“This is the moment when your dreams put on a uniform, when your sacrifices take shape in the ranks you now wear, and when your names begin to carry responsibility far greater than yourselves,” he said.

Underscoring the weight of the badge they now carry, he added, “The badge you wear is not a symbol of authority; it is a symbol of accountability.”

True to their class name, “Silang-Paglaom,” meaning “born of hope,” the graduates were challenged to embody hope not merely in words, but through consistent action anchored in integrity, discipline, and unwavering commitment to service.

Amid recent challenges faced by PNPA, particularly an incident involving hazing, the institution reaffirmed its commitment to reforms. It emphasized its mission to produce officers grounded in professionalism, ethical leadership, and respect for human dignity, ensuring these values remain at the core of police service.

The newly commissioned officers are set to reinforce police operations across the country. Of the 326 Police Lieutenants, 50 will be assigned to the Special Action Force, while the rest will be assigned to various Police Regional Offices (PROs): 26 to PRO 1; 27 to PRO 9; 34 to PRO 10; 32 to PRO 11; 29 to PRO 12; 37 to PRO BAR; 27 to PRO CARAGA; 22 to PRO MIMAROPA; and 42 to PRO Negros Island Region.

As they prepare for their respective assignments, the PNP Chief left them with a powerful reminder: “The nation does not expect you to be perfect, but it expects you to be honest, brave, and committed. Hindi kayo pinili para maging ordinaryo. Pinili kayo para maging halimbawa.”

In the end, the dream to serve is not defined by how it begins, but by how it is lived.

For the PNPA “Silang-Paglaom” Class of 2026, the journey ahead is defined by responsibility: every action is a testament to their oath, every decision carries weight, and every sacrifice upholds their promise to the Filipino people.

Their service begins now—not just as police officers, but as steadfast guardians of public trust and living symbols of hope for the nation.
