Aligned with the Philippine National Police (PNP) Focused Agenda to promote morale and welfare, and enhance the capabilities of its personnel, 30 PNP members from various Crame-based units participated in the two-day Basic Investigative and Event Photography Seminar held at Aguirre Hall, Multi-Purpose Center, Camp BGen Rafael T Crame in Quezon City, from October 21 to 22, 2025.

In this modern age, photographs serve as crucial pieces of evidence, providing essential information such as the exact time, date, and even location where they were taken. These details can effectively support or counter claims during investigations and legal proceedings. Photographs can help solve crimes, reveal the truth, and even strengthen the rapport between the police and the public. However, investigative photography is not merely about clicking the camera from any desired angle, it requires a thorough understanding of photographic composition, proper lighting, and, most importantly, correct framing.
The abovementioned seminar, which began on October 21, was spearheaded by the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM). The program aimed to enhance the technical capabilities and skills of PNP personnel, particularly those designated as official photographers. It broadened their knowledge in key areas such as proper documentation, basic photography, and evidence handling, skills essential to ensure transparency and credibility.

Aside from investigative work, participants also learned how to effectively capture official events and community activities, highlighting the PNP’s public service efforts and accomplishments. This initiative promotes transparency by showcasing the PNP’s achievements and programs to the public.
Veteran photojournalist Police Colonel Joselito Savares (Ret.) and CameraHaus representative Mr. Richmond Chi led the training, sharing their expertise in investigative and event photography. They also emphasized the importance of the ethical use of photographs and effective visual communication in telling compelling stories through images.

As part of the practical exercises, the participants went into the field to capture live events, applying the skills they had learned during the seminar. Their outputs were carefully evaluated, and the top three participants were recognized. Patrolman Jersy G. Ignacio from the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) earned third place and received a certificate of recognition; Police Chief Master Sergeant Lorieta H. Erispe from the Civil Security Group (CSG) secured second place and was likewise awarded a certificate; while Patrolman Jonelle Dave T. Balongay from the Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG) achieved first place and also received a certificate of recognition.

Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Acting PNP Chief, was represented by Police Brigadier General Randulf T. Tuaño, Chief of the Public Information Office and PNP Spokesperson, during the closing ceremony.

In his message, PLtGen Nartatez emphasized that beyond technical training, the seminar forms part of the PNP’s broader efforts to strengthen professionalism, integrity, and effective communication with the public, anchored on the vision of a Bagong Pilipinas.
