When Seconds Count, Compassion Leads through Unified 911

Guided by duty and compassion, the Philippine National Police (PNP) remains vigilant and on call, proving that public safety is a priority and that courage never sleeps when lives are at stake. Through the Unified 911 system, help is no longer distant, but a heartbeat away.

On October 26, 2025, personnel of Belison Municipal Police Station (MPS), under the direct supervision of Police Lieutenant Margaret Charisse D. Mendoza, Officer-in-Charge, successfully arrested four suspects involved in a carnapping incident and illegal possession of ammunition in Belison, Antique.

The arrest stemmed from a call received through Unified 911 regarding a silver Mitsubishi Expander reportedly taken without the owner’s consent. Initial investigation revealed that the carnapped vehicle, which had been rented by one of the suspects and extended beyond the agreed period without settling the rental fee, was allegedly lent to a third party for unknown activities.

Responding officers immediately tracked the vehicle via GPS, and established a checkpoint at Poblacion, Belison, Antique, where the suspects’ vehicle was intercepted. The suspects attempted to flee upon sighting the checkpoint, but the swift response of the police officers led to their arrest.

The arrested individuals were identified as alias “Jian,” male, 24 years old, a resident of Barangay Maybato North, San Jose, Antique; alias “John,” male, 21 years old, also a resident of Barangay Maybato North; alias “Jenny,” female, 18 years old, a resident of Barangay Calog, Bugasong, Antique; and alias “Jules,” male, 35 years old, driver, and resident of Barangay Pojo, Bugasong, Antique. Meanwhile, another female suspect, known as alias “Jona,” remains at large.

Recovered from the suspects’ possession were six assorted mobile phones; a vehicle key; a black stripe bagpack containing a homemade 12-gauge shotgun with a magazine, 13 live 12-gauge ammunition, and an axe; and a black sling bag containing two assorted knives. Further recovered inside the vehicle were a brown sling bag containing a .45 magazine, and seven pieces .45 caliber live ammunition; one live ammunition of 12-gage shotgun, two detached plate numbers, a cellphone, and a knife with scabbard.

The recovered vehicle and pieces of evidence are now under the custody of Belison MPS for proper disposition, while the arrested suspects are facing charges for violation of RA 10883 (New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016) and RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).

Another successful response through the Unified 911 was recorded on October 20, at around 10:45 PM, proving how decisive action and coordination can turn seconds of danger into moments of safety.

While conducting a regular patrol within the Eastern Police District (EPD) area of responsibility, a team led by Police Lieutenant Sean Bullet Robert O. Garcia, together with Police Master Sergeant Kierolf S. Militante, PMSg Roel Nuyles, and Police Corporal Dennisper P. Tagalicud, responded to a motorcycle accident along E. Rodriguez, Jr. Ave. (C5) corner Doña Julia Vargas Avenue, in front of SM Center City Pasig.

The team, known as EPD Blue Exemplars, promptly secured the area, rendered immediate police assistance to a male driver who sustained injuries from a self-accident, and swiftly coordinated with Unified 911 for medical response. Through their quick action, medical responders arrived and provided proper medical care to the victim.

These successive stories of how police officers effectively responded to the carnapping incident in Antique and their act of compassion they rendered during a motorcycle accident in Pasig, exemplify the PNP’s unwavering commitment and professionalism to public service. Such acts also reflect PNP’s empathy and integrity anchored in its vision of building a “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong mabilis, tapat, at nararamdaman.”

Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr., Acting PNP Chief, commended both the Belison MPS and EPD personnel for their responsiveness and genuine concern for the community, stating: “These successful operations are perfect examples of how effective coordination between our police and the DILG Unified 911 can turn potential tragedy into a story of hope. It shows that every call matters, every response counts, and every officer’s compassion defines the heart of our service to the people.”

“These also demonstrate the PNP’s resolve to act swiftly against criminality and protect the people. Let these serve as reminders that any attempt to violate the law will meet immediate and decisive action. We will continue to enforce justice and maintain public safety in every corner of our nation,” he concluded.
