Honoring the past shapes a progressive future. This year’s Independence Day celebration underscored the enduring responsibility of every generation to safeguard the freedom hard-won by the nation’s heroes. In solidarity with the Filipino people, the Philippine National Police (PNP) joined the commemoration of the 128th Philippine Independence Day held on June 12, 2026, at the PNP National Headquarters, Camp BGen Rafael T Crame in Quezon City.

Carrying the theme “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan,” the celebration highlighted the timeless value of liberty, the duty of protecting it, and the collective aspiration to build a brighter future for all Filipinos. The ceremony was led by Police Major General Wilson Joseph F. Lopez, Officer-in-Charge, Deputy Chief PNP for Operations, together with the members of the Directorial Staff, Personal Staff, Directors of the National Support Units, and other Police Commissioned and Non-Commissioned Officers.

The program opened with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and concluded with “Pilipinas Kong Mahal” by Francisco Santiago—a song that has become a stirring hymn of freedom for generations of Filipinos.

Under the banner of “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman,” this solemn gathering paid tribute to the courage and sacrifices of the nation’s forebears, while reaffirming the PNP’s unwavering commitment to uphold peace, security, and the rule of law. Through its participation, PNP underscored its role as a steadfast guardian of freedom and a vital partner in nation‑building, ensuring that the legacy of independence continues to inspire generations to come.

Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief, PNP, also joined the national Independence Day celebration at the Rizal Monument, led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., together with the First Family, key government officials, and other uniformed personnel. The event included the traditional wreath-laying ceremony to honor the nation’s heroes.

Nationwide, the PNP mobilized its forces to safeguard Independence Day activities, including flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies, civic-military parades, and cultural presentations. Police Regional Offices activated security plans in coordination with local government units, event organizers, and partner agencies. The PNP Chief emphasized that the commemoration was not only a celebration of freedom but also a reminder of the sacrifices made by Filipino heroes. He likewise urged citizens to participate responsibly and cooperate with authorities to ensure orderly festivities.

The National Capital Region Police Office deployed 12,414 personnel and force multipliers to secure major activities in the National Capital Region. These comprises 11,675 police officers, 143 personnel from partner units, and 596 force multipliers. Security coverage focused on Rizal Park, the Parada ng Kalayaan route, the Andres Bonifacio Monument, the Mausoleo de los Veteranos de la Revolución, and the Pinaglabanan Memorial Shrine. Additional personnel were strategically positioned along the route from Malacañang Palace to Rizal Park, in the vicinity of Malacañang, near the United States Embassy, at designated checkpoints, and in other key locations to ensure public safety, manage traffic, and provide immediate assistance when needed. The PNP assured the public that no validated threats were detected during the celebrations.

This coordinated effort underscored the PNP’s Focused Agenda through operational readiness, proactive policing, and effective public service during major national events. By standing alongside the Filipino people in honoring the sacrifices of the country’s heroes, the organization remains committed to advance a safer, more peaceful, and progressive Philippines for present and future generations.
