PRO 6 Holds 5-Minute Response Simulation during the Cyber Awareness Symposium

As part of the 30th Police Community Relations (PCR) Month celebration, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6), led by Regional Director Police Brigadier General Josefino D. Ligan, conducted a symposium on Cyber Awareness and Anti-Cyberbullying at Jalandoni Memorial National High School in Lapuz, Iloilo City on July 17, 2025.

The activity aimed to equip students and teachers with practical knowledge on responsible and safe internet use to avoid falling victims to cybercrimes and online bullying. With today’s youth being more technologically savvy than any generation before them, PBGen Ligan emphasized the need to match their online presence with heightened awareness and caution to prevent scams and exploitation.

During his talk, PBGen Ligan discussed the dangers of irresponsible social media use, including phishing, identity theft, and the spread of misinformation. He also tackled the long-term impact of cyberbullying, reminding participants that online harm can be as damaging as physical harm. “We want to build a safer online community for the youth,” he said, underscoring the importance of combining digital literacy with digital responsibility.

One of the most anticipated parts of the event was the live simulation exercise demonstrating PRO6’s 5-Minute Police Response capability. The demonstration showed how swift and systematic police officers in Iloilo City react to emergencies, serving as a testament to their operational readiness.

PBGen Ligan highlighted that the same sense of urgency applies to cyber-related crimes. In the digital space, quick action is key to preventing further damage, tracing suspects, and securing evidence before it disappears. A delayed response, he explained, can give cybercriminals enough time to cover their tracks, making it harder for authorities to catch them.

By linking the simulation to cyber awareness, PRO6 sent a strong message that their readiness extends beyond physical safety to digital security. This aligns with the growing need for law enforcement to adapt to the realities of an interconnected, technology-driven society.

Following the symposium and simulation, PRO6 personnel distributed information materials such as 911 calling cards and bookmarks to all participants. This effort is part of their information drive to make emergency contacts more accessible, and ensure that the public knows exactly what to do and who to call during critical situations—whether they occur physically or virtually.

Meanwhile, similar 911 simulation exercises have been successfully conducted in various provincial and city police offices across Western Visayas, strengthening public trust and confidence in ensuring a safer and more secure environment for all Filipinos.

On July 23, the Capiz Police Provincial Office spearheaded a Collaborative Stakeholder’s Forum on PNP Quick Response Strategies at the PDRRMO Building in Roxas City, strengthening linkages with various stakeholders, enhancing collective action toward faster and more effective emergency responses.

On the same day, the Aklan Police Provincial Office, through the Malay Municipal Police Station, achieved an impressive 36-second response time during its 911 5-Minute Response Simulation Exercise at RCBC Boracay, Malay, Aklan, as part of the Joint Anti-Bank Robbery and Cybercrime Committee (JABRACC) meeting. This record-setting quick intervention set a new benchmark in police responsiveness, fully aligned with PGen Torre’s vision of providing swift and efficient public service.

Continuing these efforts, the Iloilo Provincial Police Office, in coordination with partner agencies, conducted similar activities in the municipalities of Leganes and Anilao on July 31. The active participation and support of local government units, emergency response agencies, and community organizations further reinforced the overall effectiveness of the program.

Through these initiatives, the Philippine National Police (PNP) continues to prove its dedication in protecting communities in every aspect. By taking proactive steps to educate the youth and showcasing their rapid response capabilities, PNP reaffirms its role as a modern, dependable, and community-focused force committed to the safety and well-being of the Filipino people.
