Promoting Fitness and Camaraderie

PNP Kicks Off NHQ/NSUs Sportsfest 2025

On the drizzly afternoon of August 15, 2025, the Philippine National Police (PNP) officially kicked off the NHQ/NSUs Sportsfest 2025, bringing together 30 competing teams from the PNP Command Group, 15 National Operational Support Units (NOSUs), and 14 National Administrative Support Units (NASUs). The opening ceremony was held at the Transformation Oval in Camp BGen Rafael T Crame, Quezon City, where hundreds of PNP personnel gathered to compete, officiate, and support their fellow athletes.

The annual event underscores the PNP’s commitment to wellness, camaraderie, and holistic development, emphasizing the role of physical fitness in strengthening the organization’s readiness to serve and protect the Filipino people. Both uniformed and non-uniformed personnel are set to participate in various athletic competitions, including basketball, badminton, swimming, karatedo, billiards, lawn tennis, mini-marathon, shooting, and boxing.

Police General Nicolas D. Torre III, PNP Chief, was represented by Police Lieutenant General Bernard M. Banac, the Deputy Chief PNP for Administration, who served as the Guest of Honor and Speaker during the opening ceremony.

In his message, PGen Torre highlighted the deeper significance of the sportsfest, saying:
Ngunit higit sa bilang ng mga koponan, ang mas mahalaga ay ang layunin nating itaguyod ang kultura ng malusog na pangangatawan, matatag na samahan at disiplina sa sarili. Our strength as public servants must begin from within, and that is why this sportsfest matters. It is more than a break from our daily routines, it is a celebration of the values that make us stronger as individuals and as one organization.”

The PNP Chief further emphasized that the event is not just about medals or trophies but about embodying the values of resilience, respect, teamwork, and honor.

“We are not just competing for medals or trophies, we are here to demonstrate who we are. The true essence of sports is found not only in the scoreboard but in the heart of the players. Through sports, we create bonds, break barriers, and build trust. Sa pamamagitan ng palakasan, lalo nating pinagtitibay ang pagkakaisa sa loob ng ating hanay,” he added.

He also challenged the athletes to compete with purpose, saying: “To all our athletes, let your passion ignite not only your performance on the court or on the field, but also your commitment to excellence in service. Compete to inspire, not just to win. Always remember, the real success lies in the respect you gain, not just in the medals you earn.”

The NHQ/NSUs Sportsfest 2025 will run over the coming weeks, serving as a platform for teamwork, discipline, and inter-unit cooperation. More than a series of games, it is part of PNP’s broader effort to build a healthier and more motivated police force—one that is capable of meeting the demands of national peace and security while fostering unity within its ranks.
