The Philippine National Police (PNP), led by its Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., held a coordination meeting with the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) on June 2, 2026, at Camp BGen Rafael T Crame in Quezon City, reinforcing its commitment to protecting media practitioners and upholding press freedom.

The meeting served as an important platform to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and enhance existing mechanisms that ensure the safety, protection, and welfare of members of the media sector. As key partners in promoting transparency, accountability, and public awareness, the PNP and PTFoMS recognized the vital role of a free and secure press in a democratic society.
Representing the Presidential Task Force on Media Security were Undersecretary Jose A. Torres Jr., Executive Director of PTFoMS; Atty. Francis Rupert C. Mangrobang; Atty. Glenn Eric L. Peralta; Ms. Juliet C. Solis; and LTC Eisen S. Vicente. Joining the discussions were Police Major General Roderick Augustus B. Alba, Director for Police Community Relations; Police Brigadier General Nestor C. Babagay Jr., Deputy Director of the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management; Police Brigadier General Vina H. Guzman, Director of the Police Community Affairs and Development Group; and other PNP officials.

During the meeting, both parties reviewed ongoing coordination efforts and discussed strategies to further strengthen communication and cooperation between PNP and the PTFoMS. Discussions focused on improving information-sharing mechanisms, streamlining response procedures, and sustaining proactive initiatives to ensure the safety and security of media practitioners in performing their professional duties.

Police General Nartatez reiterated the PNP’s support for initiatives that protect the rights and welfare of media practitioners, recognizing their valuable contribution to democratic governance. He emphasized that fostering a safe environment for journalists not only strengthens public trust but also promotes a culture of openness, responsibility, and respect for the rule of law.
As the media remains a vital partner in nation-building and public information dissemination, the PNP remains steadfast in its commitment to working toward creating a safer environment for journalists, in line with the vision of “Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.”
