Recognizing Courage and Excellence in Service

Two law enforcement personnel were awarded by Police Brigadier General Andre P. Dizon, Regional Director of the Police Regional Office 5 (PRO5), in recognition of their excellence in fulfilling their sworn duties on July 29, 2024. PBGen Dizon presented awards to PCpl Junnel Cupin Campomayor of the 93rd Special Action Company, 9th Special Action Battalion; and PCpl Carl Madrigal Gratela of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Albay Provincial Field Unit.

The award was given in recognition of their heroism and exceptional sacrifice while fulfilling their sworn duty. During an operation to serve a search warrant against the so-called Dasmo Brothers, who were accused of violating Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, there was a bloody encounter in Barangay Basicao Coastal in Pio Duran, Albay.

In the said incident, PCpl Campomayor and PCpl Gratela sustained injuries from the encounter with the armed men. Currently, the two policemen are recuperating at the Bicol Regional Hospital and Medical Center. Their heroism inspired not only their colleagues in service but also the entire community. This award is a testament to the unparalleled dedication and sacrifice of law enforcement officers in their mission to maintain peace and order in the Bicol region.

This event underscored the importance of acknowledging courageous acts performed by members of the police force in the line of duty. The Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting and Medalya ng Kadakilaan were awarded to both officers, signifying not only their physical injuries sustained while serving, but also their unwavering commitment to protecting citizens and maintaining public safety. Such recognition serves as a powerful reminder that law enforcement personnel often put themselves in harm’s way to uphold justice and ensure community security. The act of honoring these individuals is essential for fostering morale within police ranks and reinforcing public confidence in law enforcement agencies.

Furthermore, this ceremony highlights a broader societal obligation to recognize and support those who serve in dangerous capacities. By celebrating the achievements and sacrifices of officers like PCpl Campomayor and PCpl Gratela, society acknowledges their dedication while encouraging others to emulate such courage in facing adversities. Ultimately, events like these not only commemorate individual valor, but also contribute to a culture that values heroism within public service sectors.
