The Philippine National Police (PNP) continues to intensify its campaign against criminality while strengthening partnerships with stakeholders, reinforcing its commitment to public safety and organizational excellence. PNP remains firm in advancing law enforcement capabilities, promoting community engagement, and safeguarding the welfare of its personnel.
As part of his ongoing field engagements, PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., visited the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) on April 24, 2026, to personally assess operational developments and evaluate strategic priorities on the ground. The visit highlighted the organization’s sustained drive to curb illegal activities while fostering stronger collaboration with partner agencies and local communities.

He was joined by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Juanito Victor C. Remulla, who led a joint press conference alongside the PNP Chief, together with Police Major General Robert Alexander A. Morico II, Director of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG); Police Brigadier General Arnold Thomas C. Ibay, Regional Director of PRO-NIR; and other PNP officials. The briefing highlighted the significant results of separate law enforcement operations conducted on April 21 in Bago City and Bacolod City, Negros Occidental. These operations led to the discovery of two production sites involved in illegal cigarette manufacturing and the seizure of equipment, products, and materials valued at over Php799,151,453.

Authorities also reported the arrest of ten (10) foreign nationals, all identified as Chinese citizens, who are currently under the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Region 6. Investigations remain ongoing as of this writing to identify and hold other individuals involved in the illegal operation accountable.

During the same briefing, updates were presented on the continued gains of the Safer Cities Initiative. Weeks after its launch, PNP has recorded a steady decline in crime incidents across Metro Manila, reflecting improved public compliance and strengthened police-community engagement. Initially implemented in Metro Manila, the initiative is set for nationwide rollout in line with the PNP Focused Agenda, particularly under enhanced managing police operations aimed at increasing visibility and responsiveness.

Amid these engagements, the PNP leadership also took time to honor the life and sacrifice of PMSg Romulo B. Galvez Jr., who died in the line of duty during a buy-bust operation on April 9, 2026, in Bacolod City. The PNP Chief, along with Secretary Remulla and other PNP officials, paid their respects at the fallen officer’s wake.

PMSg Galvez Jr. is remembered as a true hero who gave his life in service to the nation. His courage, dedication, and commitment to duty remain an enduring legacy in the hearts of the Filipino people he swore to serve and protect. The visit served not only as a tribute to his bravery but also as a reaffirmation of the PNP’s unwavering support for the families of fallen personnel. The organization extended its deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, and colleagues.

Guided by the PNP’s Focused Agenda, which emphasizes sustained law enforcement operations, strengthened community engagement, and personnel welfare, Police General Nartatez continues to steer the organization toward a more responsive, transparent, and accountable police service, in line with Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.
