Under the blazing skies of Dubai’s Al Ruwayyah Training City, where every second counts and each movement is measured against challenging standards, elite tactical units from around the globe gathered for the seventh edition of the prestigious United Arab Emirates (UAE) SWAT Challenge 2026. This five-day international competition, held from February 7 to 11, 2026, and hosted by the Dubai Police, serves as a premier platform for specialized police and tactical teams to demonstrate operational readiness in scenarios that mirror real-world high-risk situations.

More than a competition of speed and strength, the event combined assault drills, tactical operations, officer rescue, high-tower challenges, and obstacle courses into a series of tests that demanded precision, speed, and sound tactical judgment. Scores were tallied daily, with the highest cumulative results determining distinction among the 109 participating teams representing 48 countries.

From this demanding international arena, the Philippine National Police (PNP) delivered a performance that resonated with national pride and professional achievement, finishing 14th overall among the world’s elite units. This significant placement continued the PNP’s steady progress in the challenge, rising from 45th in 2023, to 34th in 2024, and 26th in 2025, underscoring the organization’s sustained commitment to excellence and continuous tactical development.

At the forefront of this achievement was the PNP Special Action Force delegation, whose members embodied disciplined teamwork and thorough preparation. The strength of the contingent was rooted in the highlands of the Cordillera, where daily life for many instills endurance and consistency. Their campaign opened with determination in the Assault Event, where, despite penalties, composure prevailed. Momentum surged during the Hostage Rescue Challenge, signaling confidence and synchronization. The Officer Rescue event further tested their decision-making under pressure, reinforcing the team’s resilience in high-stakes scenarios.

Leading the team was Police Captain Allen Dao-ines of Sagada, Mountain Province. He was joined by Police Master Sergeant Rickson Saggut of Tinglayan, Kalinga; Police Corporal Bruceley Balao-as of Balbalan, Kalinga; Patrolman Kevin Quezon of Tinglayan, Kalinga; Police Corporal Jerome Gacayen of Sadanga, Mountain Province; Police Corporal Alexis Bismonte of Bauko, Mountain Province; Police Corporal Sylvester Banguigui of Bauko, Mountain Province; and Patrolman Randall B. Tupac of Bauko, Mountain Province. Guiding the team was their coach, Police Senior Master Sergeant Jonathan Accad of Tinglayan, Kalinga. Their coordinated efforts across each event demonstrated not only physical skill but also disciplined execution in demanding operational scenarios.

In response to the team’s achievement, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., PNP Chief, remarked, “Our steady rise in international rankings reflects the dedication, discipline, and professionalism of our men and women in uniform. I am proud of their hard work, and we will continue training and striving to perform even better in the years ahead.” He added, “Ang ating mga police officers ay hindi lamang handa sa kanilang mga tungkulin sa loob ng bansa, kundi kaya rin nilang makipagsabayan sa pinakamahuhusay na SWAT teams sa buong mundo. This is a clear testament to the skills and resilience of our personnel.”

The UAE SWAT Challenge 2026 was more than a competition of tactical skill. It was a proving ground where teams from around the world measured their capabilities under pressure, tested their mettle against rigorous standards, and shared knowledge that strengthens global operational practices. For the Nation’s Peacekeepers, the experience reinforced their growing presence among elite tactical units and advanced the vision of a Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.
