From an early age, children are taught that siblings should look out for one another, offering support, protection, and friendship. However, what happens when a sibling becomes a source of fear and resorts to violence? It challenges the very foundation of what family is meant to be: a safe space.
On July 7, 2025, a minor in Barangay Poblacion, Aborlan, Palawan made a distress call to 911, not out of fear of strangers, but of his own brother. The incident, officially recorded under Blotter Entry Number 2025-07-12, was later filed as a formal case for violation of Republic Act 7610, also known as the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.
According to a report from the PNP Command Center (PCC)-911, the victim, identified by the code VAC-2025-07-07-48-PALPPO-(AMPS) VIC-011, was allegedly physically assaulted by his older brother, a 19-year-old Alternative Learning System (ALS) student and resident of the same barangay.
The confrontation reportedly started over a domestic argument involving unwashed dishes and the use of a motorcycle owned by their aunt, Haifa Ortega. In the heat of the argument, the suspect allegedly slapped the minor five times on the left cheek. Alarmed by the aggression and fearing further harm, the young victim made a quick and brave decision: he called 911 for assistance.

The responding officers were PSSg Carlo Angelo Lagadon, PSSg Ramil L. Sabado, PSSg Daisy Mae B. Del Carmen, PSSg Paul Clement P. Jagmis, and PCpl Wengie S. Kutat from the Aborlan Municipal Police Station, who promptly and peacefully resolved the situation. The minor was immediately brought to Aborlan Medicare Hospital for medical examination and was later declared in stable condition.
The Philippine National Police (PNP), under the leadership of Police General Nicolas D. Torre III, reiterates its call to the public: report any act of violence or emergency by calling 911. This whole-of-government initiative is designed to provide swift, coordinated, and life-saving assistance for all types of emergencies whether police, fire, medical, or other rescue services. Regardless of the nature of the emergency, the E911 system ensures that the appropriate responders are alerted and dispatched immediately—anytime, anywhere.
This story is not just about a slap or a fight, it is about a child brave enough to reach out, a police force prepared to respond, and a community reminded that every child deserves to feel safe, especially at home.
