PRO 8 Turnovers 60 Body-Worn Cameras to Police Units across the Region

In today’s modern policing where transparency and accountability have become central pillars in fostering public trust, the introduction of body-worn cameras is vital in strengthening the credibility of police officers in the conduct of their daily duties. These devices represent technological advancements of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in its strong resolve to uphold justice without compromise, capturing real-time events that help safeguard both officers and the public.

Recognizing the importance of integrating modern technology in day-to-day law enforcement, the Police Regional Office 8 (PRO8) held a blessing and turnover ceremony for an additional 60 units of 4G Body-Worn Cameras (BWCs), along with other administrative support items such as desktop computers, a digital camera, and a television unit, on August 20, 2025 at the Multipurpose Hall, Camp Ruperto K. Kangleon, Palo, Leyte. These devices will be utilized by various police units across Eastern Visayas.

The ceremony was led by Police Brigadier General Jason L. Capoy, Regional Director of PRO8, along with PBGen Salvador T. Alacyang, Deputy Regional Director for Administration; PCol Matthe L. Aseo, Chief of the Regional Staff; PLtCol Roderick P. Condag, Acting Chief of the Regional Logistics and Research Development Division; and PMaj Rey A. Ibañez, Regional Pastoral Officer.

The devices were formally received by the officers representing the following police units: Leyte Police Provincial Office with 19 units, Southern Leyte PPO with four units, Samar PPO with four units, Eastern Samar PPO with eight units, Northern Samar PPO with nine units, Biliran PPO with four units, Tacloban City Police Office with four units, and Ormoc CPO with six units. Said turnover marks the fourth time that PRO8 has distributed body-worn cameras to police units within the region.

This initiative aims to enhance operational capabilities, improve real-time monitoring, promote transparency, and further strengthen positive public perception in law enforcement.

In his message, PBGen Capoy urged police officers to maximize the use of these resources to address local security challenges and improve public safety.

“These resources are vital in enhancing the efficiency, transparency, and responsiveness of our police units across Eastern Visayas. The deployment of body-worn cameras, in particular, strengthens accountability and public trust, while the other equipment supports both operational and administrative functions,” said PBGen Capoy.

The distribution of these operational support items reflects PNP’s ongoing efforts to enhance law enforcement capabilities across various police offices, reinforce its credibility, and advance its mission of building a police force worthy of public trust.
