Roots of Peace: Better Connections, Stronger Communities

Law enforcement is often seen through the lens of discipline and order. But in an era where proactive engagement has become a cornerstone of modern policing, the Philippine National Police (PNP), led by its Chief, Police General Nicolas D. Torre III, stands as a strong advocate for community empowerment.

As part of the month-long celebration of the 30th Police Community Relations (PCR) Month, personnel from Brooke’s Point and Magsaysay Municipal Police Stations (MPS) in Palawan rolled out a series of activities on July 15, 2025, each designed to strengthen community bonds and promote public welfare.

The day began with a legal literacy lecture at Mary Edwards Venturanza Elementary School, led by Police Staff Sergeant Marife T. Flores of Brooke’s Point MPS, with the support of School Principal Ms. Shierlyn Joy S. Llacuna. The interactive session educated students on key laws that safeguard their rights and promote their well-being, including R.A. 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act, R.A. 10627 or the Anti-Bullying Act, and R.A. 7610, which protect children against abuse, exploitation, and discrimination. This early legal education not only deepens students’ understanding of their rights, but also plants the seeds of responsible citizenship—one of PNP’s key strategies in building long-term peace and safety.

Following the lecture, Police Corporal Perla M. Bautista, Assistant PCR PNCO, conducted a Zumba dance session with the students and teachers to promote physical health and highlight its importance in keeping the youth away from illegal activities. By encouraging fitness in a fun and inclusive setting, the police underscored their role as community allies not just enforcers, but partners in health and wellness.

Simultaneously, in Barangay Lucbuan, Magsaysay, personnel from Magsaysay MPS, led by Police Chief Master Sergeant Randy L. Dela Torre, in collaboration with barangay officials, women’s organizations, and Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo (KKDAT) members, conducted a feeding program for the residents of Sitio Integban.

Under the leadership of Police Major Dhayrius L. Redondo, Chief of Police of Brooke’s Point MPS, and Police Captain Eric G. Dalisay, Officer-in-Charge of Magsaysay MPS, these activities align with the directives of the Chief PNP to be truly involved in the community and embody the core values of protection, education, and compassion— principles that have long guided the PNP’s efforts to evolve from enforcers of the law to active partners in nation-building.

These multi-sectoral efforts reflect the PNP’s broader vision of creating safer, healthier, and more united communities. By consistently engaging schools, barangays, and civil society, PNP reinforces trust and breaks barriers that once stood between the uniformed service and the people they vowed to serve and protect.

As PCR Month continues, so does this message: stronger communities are built not only through protection but also through connection.
